It is always exciting when you launch a new business. I will update this post throughout the week, chronicling my actions. After the first week, I will probably have monthly posts that I updated, nothing is as exciting as the first week!
Lead Article
This week, I published my first blog posts, How to Become a Disney Travel Agent. My goal with Tiki Room Travel is to sign up as many agents as I can (within reason). My first step was to advertise this post heavily for a week, and come back to it time and time again.
My first step after publication was to use a domain I had sitting around and create a landing page using that domain pointing to the blog post.
PicGoo.com – How to Become a Disney Travel Agent
PicGoo was once upon a time a big image hosting site, back when those were popular. I purchased the domain back in 2011 for $255, planning to do something with it, and never got around to it. Now it has a use.
The blog post was added to Twitter/X and Facebook. I boosted the post on Facebook for $100, the ads should run for 2 weeks. When I originally set up advertising, Facebook estimated the following:
- Daily accounts reached: 721 – 2,100
- Daily Link Clicks: 18 – 62
The ad just finished today, with the following stats:
- Spent: $100
- Accounts Reached: 11,732 (838 per day)
- Link Clicks: 494 (35 per day)
All of the above were on the lower end of estimates, bu this is a pretty specialized post, so not surprising. Due to this campaign, I received 7 agent applications, 3 of which are currently in training.
My hope for this boost was to get 3 new agents. I may see some action for agent applications after the ad expires, that seems to happen.
I will run this again for 2 more weeks after a week or two and will alter a few things in the ad.
First Blog Post
I wrote an article called Walt Disney World Top 10 Thrill Rides. Before writing any article, I will do research on subjects and titles. I tend to focus on options that will get people interested in Tiki Room Travel, and little competition but good search results. This blog posts was just added to Facebook and Twitter and boosted on Facebook. Facebook estimated the following for my $35 spend over the next 7 days ($5/day).
- Daily accounts reached: 799 – 2,200
- Daily Post Engagement: 58 – 245
Results are in:
- Total spend: $35
- Accounts Reached: 3,430
- Engagements: 582
My goal here is to introduce Tiki Room Travel to potential clients. I will have a series of these blog posts over the next few months, each with the same goal and same spend as this one.
This was a bit disappointing from the ad side, however, the post itself ended up with 541 likes, 21 comments and 5 shares, which is quite good. I will run this ad again for one more week to see if things improve.
First Disney Meme
Who doesn’t love a good Disney meme? I created 5 memes as a test, I have never done this before. With my first agency, I used to post memes all the time, they would get great response (I have about 90,000+ followers on Facebook). A few years ago, Facebook changed, so it is REALLY hard to reach your followers. I stopped, since a meme that would get thousands of likes and comments was reduced to maybe 2,000 people seeing it. With TIki Room Travel, I wanted to try a test, so this meme was posted to Facebook and I boosted it, so basically all Disney fans would see it. I spent $7 to run it for the next 7 days. Facebook estimated the following:
- Daily accounts reached: 134 – 387
- Daily Post Engagement: 15 – 43
I think these numbers will be higher, as people like or comment on your posts, they get shown to more and more people, so if people responded, these could be a great deal. If not, I guess we will find out in a few weeks.
Results:
- Total Spend: $7
- Reach: 381
- Engagements: 62
The post ended up with 549 impressions and 74 engagements. Not great overall, but for $7, not a bad start. I will try this again with the next meme.
Facebook Invite
Going through all this effort expensive and time consuming, so in addition to getting people to notice and click on my ads, I want to make sure to invite everyone that likes my stuff to follow my page, so they become my “fans”. Facebook makes that easy. If you click on the icons below your post, the little happy faces and thumbs up, you will get a list of everyone who clicked on each emoji. Right next to their name is an “invite” button. All you have to do is click the button next to each person you want to invite. It is that easy!
Now, if you invite a couple of hundred people, you may get 10 – 20 new follows, but it is worth the extra 30 seconds to invite everyone.
Planning Ahead
I purchased two additional travel domains that I will have access to next week. They will be set up similar to PicGoo. I will post an update once they are up. I also have a few back links set up that will go live in the next week or two. While Tiki Room Travel was around, not much was done before the last 2 months, so I need to build out links to increase SEO. It is a process.
